Sermon About Courage and Mood: Courage is seen in the Bible John 16:25-33

Courage is seen in the Bible

Courage is the ability to face fear, pain, danger, or other difficult situations. It helps people overcome obstacles in life and achieve goals.

1 Chronicles 28:20 And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. David knew: Strength/Courage would come from holding tight to God…

In our lives, we often feel like we have no control over what happens around us. But there is one thing we do have control over...our attitude.

1. Courage is seen in Jesus.

The Promise John 16:25-33. Jesus sayed In Me you may have peace – John 14:27.

Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. Be courageous, have courage, assurance of Jesus victory, He overcam.

The Warning John 16:25-33. Jesus warns of tribulation – trouble, both persecution and sorrow in the world. 15:18—16:4.

The history of the early church shhows Ac 4,5,7,8,9, 11:19… 1Th1:6; 2:14; 3:4,7

Victory for Christians is not an easy victory w/o difficulties – particularly import for modern Christians to hear because we complain so about troubles.

Victory not without trouble in the world, our ‘blueprint’ includes trib, sorrow.

People who lack courage tend to avoid challenges and opportunities because they are afraid of failure or rejection. They also tend to blame others for their own failures and mistakes.

2. Courage is seen in Joshua.

Courage Will Make the Difference. Joshua and Caleb are remembered for their Courage. The rest Spies are remembered latter for their cowardice Psalms 95:7-11

Example of Joshua

Joshua had the had the discouraging example of the previous generation that failed for a lack of faith.

Him Learned how God deals with a people of so little faith and courage.

Spies said we can’t do it and this lack of faith spread like cancer though the whole of Israel (Num. 13:26-14:4).

Had the encouragement of Moses (Dt. 33:26-29).

Had the promise of God (Josh. 1:1-5).

His faith was not a blind faith, but one based on God’s Word (Josh. 1:6-9).

If you want to find more courage, start by looking at yourself honestly. Ask yourself how you would react if you were faced with a challenge or opportunity. Would you take a chance? Or would you let fear hold you back?

How Does Courage Affect My Life?

3. Courage is seen in Paul.

2 Timothy 4:7  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

You might not think of courage as something that affects your life, but it does. Jesus helps you face challenges head-on instead of avoiding them. And when you face challenges  in Jesus, you gain confidence and learn new things.

Following Jesus into the wilderness may not be comfortable. It may take great courage, and encouragement from others; but stripping away our comforts and familiar landmarks, we are enabled to face ourselves as we really are (sinful, confused and vulnerable) discovering in so doing, the infinite grace and mercy and love of Christ.

4. Courage for “The work of the Lord”:

“Always abounding in the work of the Lord”

To “abound” is to “excel”

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness….” [2 Peter 1;3]

The work of the Lord includes all that which He has ordained for Christians to do!

It takes courage to keep all of God’s word and not deviate from it (23:6; 2 Jn. 9-11).

We must cleave to the Lord and love him with all our heart (23:8,11; Mt. 22:37; Acts 11:23).

You can also use positive thinking to improve your mood. Try  to help you stay positive:

1. Focus on the good things in life.

2. Practice gratitude.

3. Think positively.

4. Take care of yourself.

5. Be kind to others.

Forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord”

“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” [Phil. 2:11]

The Hope Of Immortality: “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” [1 Cor. 15:57]
