Sermon About Funeral: Death Is a Short Step!!

"So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom..” Psalm 90:12

Death is something that we cannot escape, but as Christians, we have the hope and comfort of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. In today's sermon, we will explore what the Bible says about death and how we can find hope and comfort in the face of mortality.
  • Day of death, better than day of birth Ecclesiastes 7:1
  • “To Die Is Gain” Philippians 1:21
  • “Blessed Are The Dead” Revelation 14:13
  • Death of saint is precious Psalm 116:15
  • Death is an entrance into mansions John 14:2-3

1. Death Is a Short Step!!

Death is the end of all living things.

When a person dies, his body stops working and his spirit goes to the afterlife. Most people believe in an afterlife where people's spirits live on after their bodies die.

Death is a strange concept to people, and they have many questions about it. Most people believe that life is precious and should not be taken for granted. Since death is a part of life, it's important to understand it and respect it.

It's important to acknowledge the reality of death. Death is a part of life, and it can come at any moment, whether we are young or old, healthy or sick. The Bible reminds us of this in Ecclesiastes 3:2, which says, "There is a time to be born and a time to die." However, as Christians, we can find comfort in knowing that death is not the end. In John 11:25-26, Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die."

2. We are separated

1. We are separated from friends and family. – (2 Samuel 12:23)

2. We are separated from our earthly possessions - (1 Timothy 6:7).

3. We are separated from our body and spirit - (Gen 3:19; Eccles. 12:6-7; James 2:26).

Death is the cessation of all biological functions in the human body. Humans are alive when their bodies are healthy and functioning correctly. However, when someone dies, his body stops working. Our bodies stop working because they're damaged from disease, old age and accidents. Our organs stop functioning, which kills our cells and produces waste products in our bodies. Our bodies then return to the earth from whence they came. Essentially, death is the end of life; life is what makes humans alive, and death makes humans dead once again.

We can find comfort in the community of believers. As Christians, we are called to support and encourage one another in times of need. In 1 Thessalonians 4:18, Paul writes, "Therefore encourage each other with these words." We can take comfort in knowing that we are not alone in our grief, and that we have a community of believers who will support us and lift us up in prayer.

3. There Is a Step Between Death and Me

Death Is a Parting Step
1. Our eternal destiny depends on what we DO before death. (Hebrews 9:27; John 5:28-29; 2 Corinthians 5:10)

Everyone has the same belief about death- that death is the end of life. When a person dies, his spirit goes to an afterlife . People who have passed on are believed to be in an unseen world called heaven or hell. The afterlife determines how good or bad each person lived his life; each has the same chance at success or failure in the afterlife.

2. Have “I” obeyed the words of Jesus??? (John 12:48; Romans 2:16; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9)

3. Blessed are they who die in the Lord. (Revelation 14:13; Ephesians 1:3; Romans 3:3-6; Galatians 3:26,27)

Conclusion

We can find hope in the promise of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. In John 3:16, we read, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This means that even though our physical bodies may die, our souls will live on in heaven if we have faith in Jesus Christ. This promise gives us hope and comfort, knowing that death is not the end, but rather a transition to a new life in Christ.

“Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:13,14
