The inspiring narratives of several remarkable women in the Bible, women whose lives, though unfolding in different times and circumstances, left an enduring legacy of faith, service, and devotion. I. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar (Mark 14:3-9)

This unnamed woman, driven by a profound love for Jesus, brought an alabaster jar filled with precious perfume and poured it over His head, anointing Him in anticipation of His burial. Amidst the criticisms of those who deemed her act wasteful, Jesus recognized the depth of her devotion, declaring, "She did what she could." This woman’s story is a powerful testament to unreserved love for Christ, a willingness to prioritize His honor above worldly judgment, and a heart that acted according to its devotion, regardless of public opinion. Her legacy is a challenge to examine the sincerity and extravagance of our own expressions of love for our Savior.

II. Tabitha (Acts 9:36-39)

Tabitha, or Dorcas, was a woman whose life was characterized by "good works and charitable deeds." Her hands were busy creating garments for the poor, and her heart overflowed with compassion for those in need. The deep sorrow of her community upon her death speaks volumes about the impact of her selfless service. Tabitha’s legacy reminds us that our talents and resources are meant to be used to bless others, demonstrating the tangible love of Christ through acts of kindness and generosity. Her life begs the question: are we using our abilities to alleviate suffering and bring practical help to those around us?

III. Phoebe (Romans 16:1-2)

Phoebe stands out as a dedicated servant of the church in Cenchreae and a generous benefactor, even to the apostle Paul. Her commendation by Paul highlights her commitment, faithfulness, and willingness to support the work of God and the needs of others. Phoebe’s example teaches us the vital importance of being reliable and active in serving the Kingdom, readily offering our assistance and resources to further God’s purposes and care for His people. Her life prompts us to consider: are we known for our dependability and our eagerness to support the cause of Christ?

IV. Priscilla (Romans 16:3-5)

Priscilla, alongside her husband Aquila, was a fervent disciple who risked her life for Paul and opened her home as a place of gathering for the early church. She was a woman of leadership and influence, actively involved in Christian ministry and even playing a role in instructing Apollos in the deeper truths of the Gospel (Acts 18:26). Priscilla’s legacy underscores the power of teamwork in ministry and the importance of extending hospitality, making our homes and lives available for the edification and growth of the body of Christ. Her story challenges us to ask: are we willing to partner with others and open our lives to serve and build up the church?

Conclusion:

Dear brothers and sisters, the lives of these exemplary women – the devoted anointer, the generous Tabitha, the faithful Phoebe, and the collaborative Priscilla – offer us profound insights into what it means to live a life that honors God and impacts others. They demonstrate that regardless of their background or specific roles, a deep love for God, a commitment to service, a spirit of generosity, and a willingness to work alongside others can leave a lasting legacy.

And so, the question remains: "Do you want to be like them?" Do we desire to love God with such abandon that we disregard the opinions of the world? Do we yearn to use our gifts to tangibly bless those in need? Are we committed and faithful servants, ready to support the work of the Kingdom? Are we willing to partner with others and open our lives for the edification of the church?

May the Holy Spirit stir within us a desire to emulate the virtues of these courageous and faithful women. May we be inspired by their unwavering commitment to God and their selfless service to humanity. May our actions and attitudes, like theirs, positively impact the lives of many and bring glory to our Heavenly Father. May the Lord indeed enable us to be men and women of faith who, in our own unique ways, influence the world around us for good, just as these women did in their time. Amen.
