I. Show Me the Scriptures (Acts 17:11)

In Acts 17:11, the Bereans are commended for examining the Scriptures daily to confirm the truthfulness of Paul's teachings. As Christians, we are called to be diligent students of the Word of God. By immersing ourselves in the Scriptures, we gain a solid foundation for our faith and are equipped to discern truth from error.

    • This was the attitude of the Bereans (Acts 17:11)

        ◦ It was encouraged by Jesus (Jn. 5:39)

        ◦ Implied by Paul (2 Tim. 2:15)

    • Even false teachers show their error (Matt. 7:15-16; 1 Jn. 4:1)

    • Signs (miracles) show us that Jesus is the Son of God

II. Show Me Obedience (John 15:14)

In John 15:14, Jesus declares, "You are my friends if you do what I command you." Our love for Christ is revealed through our obedience to His teachings. As Christians, our actions should align with the Word of God, demonstrating our devotion to Him.

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you” (Jn. 15:14)

  • Knowing to do good is not enough (James 4:17)
  • Believing what is right is not enough (Heb. 11:6)

We must keep His commandments in addition to these

III. Show Me Love (John 13:34-35)

In John 13:34-35, Jesus commands His disciples to love one another as He has loved them. Love is the defining mark of a Christian. Our love for one another is a powerful testimony to the world of Christ's presence in our lives. By showing genuine love, we reflect the love of our Savior to those around us.

  • Believe (Jn. 8:24)
  • Repent (Lk. 13:3, 5)
  • Confess (Matt. 10:32)
  • Be baptized (Mk. 16:16)

We Show We Love Jesus When We Keep His Commandments (John 14:15, 21, 23)

In John 14:15, Jesus says, "If you love me, keep my commandments." Our love for Jesus is intimately connected to our obedience to His commands. When we demonstrate obedience, we reveal our deep love and devotion to our Savior.

IV. Show Me You're a Christian (Colossians 1:3-6)

In Colossians 1:3-6, Paul commends the Colossian believers for their faith in Christ and love for all God's people. As Christians, our faith should be evident in our lives. We display our identity in Christ through our actions, attitudes, and interactions with others.

  • For each other (Jn. 13:34-35)
  • Should not bite and devour each other (Gal. 5:15)
  • Should show bonds of fellowship (Col. 2:2)

“But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth” (1 Jn. 3:17-18)
