How to Receive God's Blessings (Homiletical Framework)

Receiving God's Blessings: A Path of Faith and Obedience

Due to the advertisements that churches make, people are looking for God out of interest in receiving “blessings” and not out of love to him.

Do you know why you don't see what God's blessing really is? Because they want and seek everything that human nature desires

God's great blessing is Jesus Christ, he is God's great gift, his Son. It is a blessing for all humanity, it is a blessing that saved us all. He is the eternal Word with which the Father blessed us, “while we were still sinners” (Rm 5:8).

Can we receive material blessings? If it is God's will, yes. But we must seek spiritual blessings

Introduction: From "Must Have" to "Already Possess"

Tonight, we gather to discover a profound reality that shifts the very foundation of how we live. The child of God no longer lives in the anxious state of "must have," but in the triumphant assurance of "already possess." We do not beg for scraps; we stand as heirs.

To truly receive God’s blessings, we must approach Him with a posture of intense gratitude and radical recognition—recognizing exactly what He has already poured into our accounts. When we open our eyes to Ephesians 1, we discover a stunning inventory of our current spiritual reality. Look at what you already have tonight:
    • You have been blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3).
    • You have been chosen before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).
    • You have been predestined for adoption (Ephesians 1:5).
    • You have been accepted and highly favored in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
    • You have the remission of sins through His shed blood (Ephesians 1:7).
    • You have the revelation of the mystery of His will (Ephesians 1:9).
    • You have been made a heritage and obtained an inheritance (Ephesians 1:11).
    • You have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13).

These are not earthly, temporary rewards. These are eternal blessings stored for us in heaven. What exactly do these heavenly blessings look like? They mean eternal communion with the Lord ("we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" — 1 John 3:2).

They mean participating in His absolute glory (John 17:24; Luke 15:31) and enjoying eternal life (John 3:36).

It means a future where you will be forever free from all temptations and trials (Revelation 22:3), far beyond the reach of all suffering where every tear is wiped away (Revelation 7:17), enjoying glorious reunion and communion with our loved ones (Matthew 8:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), and finally attaining absolute perfection (Revelation 22:1-5).

Let us unpack this magnificent reality by looking strictly at our foundational text: Ephesians 1:1-23.

Section I: Uncountable Blessings

A. The Foundation of the Message

Our journey begins with the Apostle Paul writing to the church at Ephesus to deliver an ultimate message from God (Ephesians 1:1-2). We must recognize the weight of the messenger to appreciate the depth of the message:
    • Paul was an apostle called by God, not sent or appointed by human hands (Galatians 1:1).
    • He was set apart exclusively for the gospel (Romans 1:1).
    • God, in His mercy, considered him faithful, putting him into the ministry (1 Timothy 1:12).
Because of this, the nature of the message he brings us tonight is completely trustworthy and faithful, overflowing with spiritual blessings, and anchored firmly in God's eternal purpose.

B. The Greatest Manifestation of Love

How do we know we have these uncountable blessings? Look at the cross. The greatest blessing ever granted to humanity is that God did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all (Romans 8:32). This is how God clearly demonstrated His own love toward us: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
Through this act, Paul confidently declares that we have already been blessed with every single kind of spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

C. The Twin Callings: Holiness and Faithfulness

Among these uncountable blessings, God gives us a distinct calling to live a separated life. There is no greater privilege on earth than being set apart for God (Ephesians 1:2).
    • The Blessing of Holiness: True holiness is an evidence of our transformation.
    • The Blessing of Faithfulness: Remaining faithful requires a daily, deliberate commitment. We must live in active obedience, conforming ourselves to the One who called us (1 Peter 1:14-16).

The Kingdom Reality: Holiness and faithfulness walk hand-in-hand. You cannot walk in true holiness without showing daily faithfulness, and you cannot be truly faithful without pursuing holiness. The Christian life demands a total separation from sin and a radical dedication to the Lord.
    • Application for Your Life: As a believer, you must reflect Christ daily. Holiness is not an optional lifestyle accessory; it is the undeniable, living evidence of your new life in Him.

Section II: Blessings of the Grace of God

A. The Heavenly Origin

Our blessings do not originate from the shifting soil of this earth. They proceed from the throne room, flowing directly from the fullness of the Holy Trinity:

    1. From the Father: Who chose and predestined us (Ephesians 1:4-6).
    2. From the Son: Who redeemed us by His blood (Ephesians 1:7-12).
    3. From the Holy Spirit: Who seals and guarantees us (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Because they come from the heavenly places, they are strictly spiritual blessings. They cannot be stolen, they cannot rust, and they cannot decay. They are not fleeting or earthly—they are eternal and celestial.

B. Elected, Adopted, and Accepted

Before the world was even spoken into existence, God chose us in Christ according to His divine foreknowledge and determined counsel (1 Pedro 1:20; Acts 2:23; Acts 4:28; Ephesians 3:11).

    • The Purpose of Our Election: God did not choose us so we could remain comfortable in our old ways. He chose us to be holy and blameless before Him (Deuteronomy 7:6; Ephesians 1:4).

    • The Miracle of Adoption: He predestined us to be adopted as His legitimate children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will (Ephesians 1:5).

    • Accepted in the Beloved: Through Jesus, we are fully accepted, received, and forgiven (Ephesians 1:6-7). We must realize how desperate our situation was: outside of Christ, we were completely hopeless, strangers to the covenants of promise, and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12).

    • Application for Your Life: Stop looking to the world to define who you are. Your true identity is entirely hidden in Christ. You are chosen, you are adopted, and you are radically accepted by Almighty God.

Section III: Blessings of the Fullness of God

When we receive God's blessings with gratitude, we unlock the breathtaking riches of His fullness. Look at the wealth that has been poured into your spiritual inheritance:

1. The Riches of His Goodness and Grace

God breaks our chains using the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering (Romans 2:4). His grace is not handed out in small portions; it is an abundant, exceeding wealth displayed toward us (Ephesians 2:7).

2. Redemption and Justification

We have been bought out of the slave market of sin at a staggering price (1 Corinthians 6:20). We have absolute redemption through His blood and the total forgiveness of our sins (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14). We are justified freely by His grace (Romans 3:24-26), and our response must be to walk continually in the light as He is in the light, enjoying real cleansing and fellowship (1 John 1:6-7).

3. Spiritual Wisdom and Inheritance

God has not kept us in the dark. He has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence, giving us spiritual understanding to know the mystery of His will (Ephesians 1:8-10; Ephesians 1:17-18). Furthermore, we have obtained an inheritance, being made joint-heirs with Christ of eternal promises (Ephesians 1:11-12; Romans 8:17; 1 Peter 1:4).

4. The Seal and Guarantee of the Spirit

When you believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13). The Holy Spirit is the arrhas—the guarantee, the down payment—of our eternal redemption until God reclaims His purchased possession (Ephesians 1:14).

5. Power, Intercession, and the Privilege to Serve

This fullness manifests practically within the church body:
    • Brotherly Communion: True faith naturally produces deep love and unity among all the saints (Ephesians 1:15).
    • The Privilege of Intercession: We are strengthened and blessed through the continuous, faithful prayers of our brothers and sisters (Ephesians 1:16).
    • Supernatural Power: The exceeding greatness of God's power is actively working inside us—the very same power that raised Christ from the dead (Ephesians 1:19).
    • The Privilege of Service: We serve a victorious King. Christ reigns supreme far above all principality and power, and He has been given as the head over all things to the Church, which is His body (Ephesians 1:20-23).
    • Application for Your Life: The spiritual riches you possess in Christ outweigh any material wealth this world can offer. If you are in Christ, you do not lack anything; you hold an incorruptible, eternal heritage.
