Sermon on Beginning With God

How to Start a Life with God

Introduction:

Starting a life with God is the most significant decision one can make. It marks the beginning of a journey toward a relationship with the Creator, a life of purpose, and the promise of eternal life. This journey is not just about a moment of decision but about a continuous process of growth, transformation, and devotion. Let's explore the steps that guide us in starting and cultivating a life with God.

1. Recognize the Need for God (Romans 3:23):

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." The first step in starting a life with God is recognizing our need for Him. We must acknowledge that we are sinners in need of salvation. This realization humbles us and opens our hearts to the grace and mercy that God offers through Jesus Christ.

2. Sincere Repentance (Acts 3:19):

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Repentance is more than just feeling sorry for our sins; it is a sincere turning away from sin and turning toward God. True repentance involves a change of heart and mind, leading us to live in a way that honors God.

3. Accept Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:16):

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." To start a life with God, we must accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Believing in Jesus means trusting in His sacrifice on the cross for our sins and receiving the gift of eternal life that He offers.

4. Publicly Confess Jesus (Romans 10:9):

"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Confessing Jesus as Lord publicly is an important step in starting a life with God. This confession is an outward declaration of our inward faith and commitment to follow Jesus.

5. Develop a Life of Prayer (Colossians 4:2):

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Prayer is the lifeline of a believer. It is through prayer that we communicate with God, expressing our needs, gratitude, and worship. A life of prayer strengthens our relationship with God and keeps us connected to His will.

6. Study and Meditate on God's Word (Psalm 119:105):

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." The Bible is God's Word, a guide for living a life that pleases Him. By studying and meditating on Scripture, we learn more about God's character, His promises, and His expectations for us. God's Word provides the wisdom and direction we need for our daily lives.

7. Living in Christian Community (Acts 2:42):

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Starting a life with God also means becoming part of a Christian community. The church provides support, encouragement, and accountability as we grow in our faith. Fellowship with other believers strengthens us and helps us stay focused on our walk with God.

8. Follow the Commandments of Christ (John 14:15):

"If you love me, keep my commands." Jesus calls us to obedience. To live a life with God, we must follow the teachings and commandments of Christ. This includes loving others, serving those in need, and living a life that reflects His love and righteousness.

9. Be Transformed by the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:2):

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." When we start a life with God, the Holy Spirit begins to work in us, transforming us from the inside out. This transformation renews our minds, changes our desires, and empowers us to live in a way that honors God.
