 Sermon on God's Timing


Brothers and sisters, let us delve into the profound and often challenging truth of God's timing. We live in a world of instant gratification, where we expect immediate results. But God's ways are not our ways, and His timing is perfect, even when it seems delayed.


1. God Has a Time for Everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1)


"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that God orchestrates all things. He has a divine timetable, a perfect plan for every aspect of our lives. There is a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to weep and a time to laugh. Understanding this truth brings peace amidst the uncertainty of life.   


2. God's Timing is Not Our Time (Isaiah 55:8)


"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord." Isaiah 55:8 reveals the vast difference between our limited perspective and God's infinite wisdom. We often try to impose our own timelines on God, but His timing is not bound by our desires or expectations. His ways are higher, His plans are greater.


3. Waiting on God's Timing Produces Spiritual Growth (Isaiah 40:31)


"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31 speaks of the strength gained through waiting on God. The process of waiting cultivates patience, perseverance, and dependence on God. It is in these moments of waiting that we are refined and strengthened.   


4. God Is Not Delayed, He Always Keeps His Promises (2 Peter 3:9)


"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 addresses the misconception of God's delay. His timing is not a sign of neglect, but rather a demonstration of His patience and love. He is working according to His perfect plan, ensuring that all His promises are fulfilled.   


5. Impatience Can Lead Us to Mistakes (Joshua 9:14)


"Then they took some of their provisions, but they did not ask the Lord for his counsel." Joshua 9:14 illustrates the consequences of acting impulsively. The Israelites, in their haste, made a covenant without seeking God's guidance. Impatience can lead us to make decisions that we later regret, decisions that take us off God's intended path.


6. God's Timing Involves Processes (James 1:2-3)


"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." James 1:2-3 highlights the importance of the process. God's timing often involves a series of trials and challenges, designed to refine our character and deepen our faith. These processes, though difficult, are essential for our spiritual growth.   


7. Prayer Helps Us Align with God's Timing (Philippians 4:6)


"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6 encourages us to bring our anxieties and requests to God in prayer. Prayer is not about manipulating God's timing, but about aligning our hearts with His will. It allows us to surrender our control and trust in His perfect plan.   


8. God's Timing Brings Perfect Answers (Jeremiah 33:3)


"‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’" Jeremiah 33:3 assures us that God hears and answers our prayers. His answers, delivered in His perfect timing, are always better than anything we could have imagined. When God answers, he answers perfectly.   


9. God's Timing Requires Faith and Patience (Hebrews 10:36)


"You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." Hebrews 10:36 emphasizes the need for faith and patience. Waiting on God requires us to trust in His character and His promises, even when we don't see immediate results. Faith and patience work hand in hand.   


10. In Time Sure, God Does More Than What We Ask (Galatians 4:4)


"But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law." Galatians 4:4 shows that God’s timing is perfect. At the right time, God sent Jesus. And in our lives, at the right time God will move. Ephesians 3:20 says, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." God's timing often involves exceeding our expectations. He is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine.
