Overflowing Blessing
Text: Luke 6:38
The principle of overflowing blessing. God’s Word teaches us that His blessings are abundant and that He desires to pour them out upon us. However, these blessings are often tied to our willingness to live generously, trust in His provision, and reflect His character. Let us dive into Scripture and discover how we can position ourselves to receive and share God’s overflowing blessings.
1. The Principle of Generosity (Luke 6:38a)
“Give, and it will be given to you.” (Luke 6:38a).
Generosity is at the heart of God’s kingdom. He calls us to give—not just materially, but also in love, time, and service. When we give freely, we reflect God’s character and open ourselves to His blessings.
Let us ask ourselves: Are we living generously? Are we willing to give as God has given to us?
2. The Principle of Divine Measurement (Luke 6:38b)
“A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38b).
The way we bless others determines the way we will be blessed. God’s measurement is not stingy; it is abundant and overflowing. When we give generously, He pours out blessings in ways that exceed our expectations.
Let us give with open hands and hearts, trusting that God will multiply what we offer.
3. God Rewards Those Who Give from the Heart (2 Corinthians 9:7)
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Overflowing blessings come to those who give with joy and sincerity. God is not interested in grudging or obligatory giving; He looks at the heart. When we give cheerfully, we honor Him and position ourselves to receive His favor.
Let us examine our motives and ensure that our giving is rooted in love and gratitude.
4. The Multiplication of Blessing (Malachi 3:10)
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’” (Malachi 3:10).
God promises to multiply blessings to those who are faithful and obedient. When we honor Him with our tithes and offerings, He opens the floodgates of heaven and pours out blessings beyond measure.
Let us trust in His promise and be faithful stewards of what He has entrusted to us.
5. The Law of Sowing and Reaping (Galatians 6:7)
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7).
This principle reminds us that our actions have consequences. Those who sow generously will reap abundantly, while those who sow sparingly will reap sparingly.
Let us sow seeds of kindness, generosity, and faithfulness, knowing that God will bring a harvest in due time.
6. God Is the Source of Abundant Provision (Philippians 4:19)
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19).
Our trust should be in God’s provision, not in material possessions. He is the source of all good things, and He promises to meet our needs according to His riches.
Let us rely on Him completely, knowing that He is faithful to provide.
7. Overflowing Blessings Are Not Just Material (Proverbs 10:22)
“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” (Proverbs 10:22).
True prosperity includes peace, joy, health, and abundant life in Christ. While God may bless us materially, His greatest blessings are spiritual and eternal.
Let us seek His kingdom first, trusting that He will add all we need (Matthew 6:33).
8. Generosity Testifies to Our Faith (Hebrews 13:16)
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16).
The act of giving reflects our commitment to God and to others. It is a tangible expression of our faith and love. When we give, we testify to God’s goodness and generosity.
Let us be known as people who give freely and love deeply.
9. Jesus as Our Greatest Example of Self-Giving (John 3:16)
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
God has given us the greatest gift: Jesus Christ. His self-giving love is the ultimate example of generosity. When we give, we follow in His footsteps and reflect His heart.
Let us give as He has given to us—sacrificially and unconditionally.
10. The Greatest Reward Is in Eternity (Matthew 6:20)
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20).
Our greatest reward is not in this world, but in eternal life with God. The blessings we receive here are just a foretaste of the glory that awaits us.
Let us live with eternity in mind, investing in what truly matters.

Conclusion
Overflowing blessings are not just about material abundance; they are about living in alignment with God’s principles of generosity, faithfulness, and trust. When we give freely, trust in His provision, and reflect His character, we position ourselves to receive His abundant blessings.
Let us be cheerful givers, faithful stewards, and joyful recipients of His grace. May our lives overflow with His blessings, and may we use them to glorify Him and bless others.
