I. We Are Children of Light Because the Gospel Shines Upon Our Hearts (2 Corinthians 4:1-7)

The Apostle Paul declares that the light of the gospel shines upon our hearts, dispelling the darkness of sin and ignorance. Just as God commanded light to shine out of darkness in the creation story (Genesis 1:3), He also calls us out of darkness into His marvelous light. The gospel reveals Christ's glory and saves us from the power of sin, making us children of light.

II. We Are Children of Light Because God Called Light to Shine Out of Darkness in the Old Testament (Genesis 1:3)

In the beginning, God spoke light into existence, separating it from darkness. This act of creation symbolizes the transformative power of God's light in our lives. Through Christ, the light of the world (John 8:12), we are called out of darkness and into His marvelous light. As children of light, we carry the truth and love of Christ into a world in need of His saving grace.

III. We Are Children of Light Because the Light of Jesus Reveals Truth (John 14:6)

Jesus proclaimed, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." The light of Jesus not only guides us but also reveals truth. In a world clouded by deception and falsehoods, the light of Christ illuminates the path to righteousness and eternal life. By following Jesus, we walk in the light of truth and experience true freedom.

IV. We Are Children of Light Because We Can Know the Truth through Him (John 8:31-32)

In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us that if we abide in His word, we are truly His disciples, and we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. As children of light, we have the privilege of knowing the truth through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through the study of His Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we gain wisdom and discernment to navigate life's challenges.

V. We Are Children of Light Because We Have Been Delivered from Darkness (Colossians 1:13; 1 Peter 2:9)

As children of light, we have experienced God's deliverance from the power of darkness. The apostle Paul reminds us in Colossians 1:13 that God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. In 1 Peter 2:9, Peter describes us as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation, called out of darkness into God's marvelous light. This deliverance marks the beginning of our journey as children of light.

VI. We Are Children of Light, Therefore We Must Walk as "Children of Light" (Ephesians 5:8)

As children of light, we are called to walk in the light and reflect the character of Christ. The Apostle Paul urges us in Ephesians 5:8 to walk as children of light, living lives marked by love, truth, and righteousness. Our transformed lives should bring glory to God and draw others to the beauty of His light shining through us.

VII. If We Do Not Walk in Light, We Do Not Have Fellowship with God (1 John 1:5-7)

The apostle John emphasizes the importance of walking in the light in 1 John 1:5-7. As children of light, we are called to live in truth and purity, avoiding the works of darkness. When we walk in the light, we have fellowship with God and one another. However, if we choose to walk in darkness and sin, we sever our fellowship with God. To abide in Him, we must embrace the light and continually seek to live in righteousness.
