Sermon on Overcoming Obstacles with Christ

 Overcoming Obstacles with Christ

Scripture: Romans 8:37“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Introduction:

Brothers and sisters, in our journey of faith, we will face obstacles—challenges that threaten to shake our trust in God. But the Word assures us that we are more than conquerors through Christ. The Greek word Hupernikao means to gain a surpassing victory! This is not just surviving but overcoming completely. Today, we will explore three ways to overcome obstacles through Christ.

I. Learn to Trust GodFear is one of the greatest obstacles we face.

It can manifest as reverence and respect, but it can also appear as terror, distress, panic, or alarm. Webster’s defines fear as “a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.” How do we overcome fear? By learning to trust God.

Faith is Essential

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

God’s Promise of Provision

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5-6)

God Values You

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7)

God’s Power to Deliver

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.’” (Daniel 3:16-17)

II. Learn to Live in God’s PresenceAnother obstacle we face is loneliness and uncertainty. But we are not alone! God is always with us.

God’s Command to Be Courageous

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

God is Our Refuge

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.” (Psalm 46:1-2)

III. The Power of PrayerPrayer is the key to overcoming any obstacle. It connects us to God’s power and brings peace in times of distress.

Pray Instead of Worry

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Jesus’ Example in Prayer

“And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.’ He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.” (Mark 14:33-35)
