Preaching on God's Provision

 God's Provision

The profound truth of God's provision, a truth that echoes from the very beginning of creation and resonates throughout the scriptures. Today, we explore the depth and breadth of God’s provision, recognizing Him as the ultimate source of all that we need.

1. God, the Ultimate Provider (Genesis 1:29)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; it shall be for meat to you.” From the dawn of creation, God has graciously provided for humankind. He established the earth with abundant resources, ensuring our sustenance. God's provision is not meager, but abundant and sufficient.

2. Dominion over Foods of Animal Origin (Genesis 9:3)

Every moving thing that liveth shall be for meat to you: as the green herb have I given you all things.” After the flood, God expanded His provision, granting humanity dominion over animals for food. This act demonstrates God’s sovereignty over all creation and His ongoing care for His people.

3. God Sustains the Earth and Its Inhabitants (Job 36:31)

For with them he judges the peoples, and gives them food in abundance.” God’s provision extends beyond mere sustenance; He governs the entire creation, ensuring that all receive what they need. His provision is a reflection of His justice and mercy, a testament to His perfect and loving rule.

4. God’s Care for Nature and Its Fruits (Psalm 104:14)

He causes grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth bread from the earth.” God created nature to nourish all living creatures. He established a perfect and harmonious cycle of provision, ensuring that the earth yields its bounty.

5. God’s Love Manifested in Sustaining All (Psalm 136:25)

Who gives food to all flesh: for his mercy endures forever.” God’s provision is an expression of His everlasting love. He does not abandon any living being, but extends His care to all of creation.

6. Man's Dependence on God's Provision (Psalm 145:15)

The eyes of all wait on you, and you give them their food in due season.” Everything we have, every blessing we enjoy, comes from God’s goodness. We are utterly dependent on His provision. Trusting in God brings security and contentment, freeing us from the anxieties of scarcity.

7. God's Care for Creatures, an Example for Us (Matthew 6:26)

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Jesus uses the example of God’s care for the birds to illustrate His concern for us. If God provides for the birds, how much more will He provide for His children? Concerns about sustenance should be replaced by unwavering trust in God.
